St Paul’s Bay was named after Paul the Apostle, who was shipwrecked on an islet in the bay, during his journey from Qaysaria to Rome. The Maltese consider it was St Paul who introduced Christianity to the Islands.
St Paul’s Bay started as a small fishing village but has grown significantly and together with its neighbouring districts is now a major resort.
The seaside promenade stretches along the coast from Xemxija, around the scenic bay, to Qawra and Salina Bay. Restaurants, cafes, shops, bars, clubs and a casino can be found along the 3km promenade, many other tourist facilities are available in abundance. Water sports dominate the shoreline which is great for swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling.
