St Paul’s Bay Malta Where is St Paul’s BaySt. Paul’s Bay is a coastal town in the Northern Region of Malta. It is the original part of a group of localities which include
Bugibba,
Qawra, Xemxija and San Martin.
St Paul’s Bay is about 12km from
St Julian’s and about 17km from
Valletta – there is a regular bus service. Malta International Airport is some 19km away and takes about 35 minutes by taxi and about 60 minutes on bus X3.

About St Paul’s BaySt Paul’s Bay was named after Paul the Apostle, who was shipwrecked on an islet in the bay, during his journey from Qaysaria to Rome. The Maltese consider it was St Paul who introduced Christianity to the Islands.
St Paul’s Bay started as a small fishing village but has grown significantly and together with its neighbouring districts is now a major resort.
The seaside promenade stretches along the coast from Xemxija, around the scenic bay, to Qawra and Salina Bay. Restaurants, cafes, shops, bars, clubs and a casino can be found along the 3km promenade, many other tourist facilities are available in abundance. Water sports dominate the shoreline which is great for swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling.
St Paul’s Bay – Good to know The population of St Paul’s Bay (Including Qawra & Buġibba) is about 30,000 and usually doubles as locals and visitors fill the hotels in the summer months.
A regular public transport system operates, with several bus stops through the town.
The ‘Hop on & off’ open top buses are a great way to
explore Malta and to visit the most interesting places. Buses leave from various locations around the town every half hour.
Mistra Bay past Xemxija is a lovely and interesting pebbly beach - well worth a visit - with several caves that were used as burial spots in the past. At the edge of the cliff stands a military battery built by the knights, today used for aquaculture. St Paul’s Island is nearby, and there are several dive sites, including the spot where St Paul was shipwrecked.
The popular beaches of Golden Bay and Ghajn Tuffieha are only 30mins away by bus (Routes 223 and 225).

St Paul’s Bay Festa The parish is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. The parish feast is celebrated towards the end of July.
