Now a busy market town, Mosta is most famous for it's church and dome. The Rotunda Church has an enormous dome, the 3rd largest in Europe.
The original church on the site dated back to 1641, however, the version you see today was built between 1833 to 1860. It had quite a lucjy escape in April of 1942 during the war; a German bomb dropped over Mosta penetrated the dome and bounced onto the church floor but failed to explode! A replica 200kg bomb is now on show to the public that come to visit.
