Car Hire/Rental in Malta and Gozo

Malta Details

Car hire is normally provided and collected from your accommodation, however, you can choose to collect or drop off the car at the airport when staying in MALTA, this is an additional 12 euros each way, to be paid locally.

Please note, that we will require a mobile number to pass onto the car hire company, Sundrive, so they can contact you with the car collection/delivery details. If you do encounter any problems, please contact them on 00356 7949885.

To ensure availability it is advisable to book well in advance.

Drivers must be between the ages of 23 and 75 and have a British or International license. For drivers aged 23-25 and 70-75 an insurance supplement is payable locally. In Malta you cannot hire a car if you are under the age of 23. If you are aged 70-75 you must also show a doctors certificate in resort.

Clients are fully insured with collision damage waiver & theft damage protection but there is an excess of €700. To waive the excess it is possible to pay an optional, but recommended, local charge of €6 per day to ensure no additional costs in case of an accident (if this supplement is not paid in resort a pre-authorization payment of €1000 will be held against a card).

Local tax and unlimited mileage are also included in the rates. Cars are delivered to your accommodation. Extra drivers and fuel must be paid locally. A pre-authorized card payment of €100 will be held by the hire company to settle any car related fines. Baby seats, car cots and roof racks are on request, payable direct to car hire firm in Malta/Gozo.

Car Seats: €2.50 per day, Booster Seats: €2.50 per day, Insurance Supplement: €6.00 per day, GPS: €5.00 per day

The DVLA has recently announced that the paper counterpart of the British driving licence is no longer valid and therefore drivers who want to hire a car abroad are being advised to obtain a code from the DVLA’s ‘share driving licence’ service on their website. Our car hire companies in Malta and Gozo have both confirmed that they only require a copy of a valid photocard licence; therefore Malta Direct clients do not need to obtain a code from the DVLA.
