Holidays in Mgarr, Gateway to Gozo
The town of Mgarr has grown up around the harbour on the east end of Gozo, where fishing and ferry operations have been thriving since the 1200's. Mgarr is the sea entry point of Gozo, and your entry point to any of the Gozo Hotels and villas on the island. Holidaymakers are welcomed by impressive views of two major landmarks overlooking the Mgarr harbour, namely Fort Chambrai and the gothic church of our Lady of Lourdes. The historic buildings of Mgarr make great sightseeing spots for tourists; Fort Chambrai was built in 1794 and the Lourdes Church dates back to 1888. The valley of Mgarr ix-Xini is the site of one of Gozo's most secluded beaches. This beach is popular with sunbathers, snorkellers and divers - and is a particular favourite among underwater photographers. The Mgarr ix-Xini area is also popular with rock climbing enthusiasts.
